REPORT: Manuel Neuer Makes a Big Chelsea Transfer Decision

Chelsea have had many problems between the sticks this season, which is why they’ve been linked with Manuel Neuer. When Chelsea signed Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao for an astounding £73 million, he was expected to be a star. This has not happened. The Spaniards’ form has been under-par, forcing Frank Lampard to put back-up keeper Willy Caballero in goal.

Caballero is 38-years-old, making him far from the quality a team like Chelsea should have. This has forced Lampard and the Blues to turn to the transfer market in search of a new keeper. The most prominent name linked with a move to the Blues is none other than Neuer.

Why Neuer Might Leave For Chelsea

Neuer seems like a plausible option to move to the Blues for a couple of reasons. Firstly, he will definitely bring quality. There is no doubt that he will be able to fix their issues. He has proven he is one of the best many times throughout his illustrious career. Secondly, Neuer has been going through contract issues with his club, Bayern Munich. He has been in talks with Bayern for months now, discussing a new contract, but things don’t seem to be progressing, as the two parties are in disagreement. This has even prompted Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus to criticise Neuer.

This is the very incident which has alerted Chelsea to Neuer’s availability. Bayern seem like they might be ready to move on after recently acquiring Schalke keeper, Alexander Nübel. Nübel joins Bayern this summer and this might pave the way for Neuer to leave.

The Decision

After quite some time with fans left to ponder on what might be the outcome of this situation, it seems that Neuer has made a decision. Reports from Kerry Hau and Martin Volkmar at Goal claim that Neuer does not consider Chelsea to be an option and has no desire to move to the Blues. According to this report, his desire is to stay in Germany. This reflects what Neuer said in 2011 when he was linked with a move to another Premier League side, Manchester United. He said he wouldn’t consider England for a ‘vacation’, nevermind as a career move. It seems this is still the case and Chelsea will have to search elsewhere for their keeper.
