Real Madrid want a world-record fee for Manchester United target Federico Valverde, according to Jacque Talbot of the Mirror.

Manchester United No Stranger to High Transfer Fees

Manchester United are no stranger to high transfer fees, or even breaking the world-record. The Red Devils bought Paul Pogba for £89 million in 2016, the highest price ever paid for a football player at the time. Although this record has since been shattered many a time, it shows that United do not normally back down from a high price.

Despite this, they may shy away from this one.

Los Blancos want £450 million for Valverde, should they let him go this summer. With the current record at approximately £200 million, this would easily become the world-record, but even in today’s market, teams are unlikely to pay that much.

United Do Not Want to Pay Big-Money

Manchester United do not want to pay big money for someone this summer, and £450 million seems totally out of the question.

The Red Devils reportedly have approximately £100 million in cash, and although payments for transfers like Romelu Lukaku are coming in instalments, they will have nowhere near enough for that.

Especially if they secure £120 million rated Jadon Sancho and £30 million Jude Bellingham in the summer, both of whom seem quite likely to be on their way to Old Trafford.

United would not want to fork out anywhere near this much for Valverde in the summer, especially with their other targets and lack of money.

Manchester United want Federico Valverde as a Pogba Replacement

It is likely that, should United bring in Valverde, it would be as a replacement for Paul Pogba.

The Frenchman may be on the move in the summer, with a price of roughly £100 million reportedly set by the Red Devils, and although this would help fund the move, it would not fully cover it by any means, and Real will need to significantly lower their asking price if they want to sell Valverde in the summer.
