REPORT: Erling Haaland Wanted by Real Madrid

Real Madrid are interested in signing Erling Haaland, according to Ben Hayward of the Evening Standard.

The Borussia Dortmund striker only moved to Signal Iduna Park in January. However, he reportedly has a £50 million release clause in his contract, something a number of clubs are looking to exploit.

Real Madrid Join the Race for Erling Haaland

One of the World’s Best

The Norweigan international may still only be 19, but he’s already one of the best strikers in the world. In the first half of this season, he hit a breathtaking 28 goals in 22 games for Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.

He moved to Dortmund in January as he expected to get a significant amount of playing time to further his development. But since swapping the Austrian Bundesliga for the German Bundesliga, the Norweigan has proven to be an unstoppable force of nature. He’s taken the step up in his stride, continuing his extraordinary goalscoring form with a mammoth 12 goals in his first 11 games

Dortmund could have found themselves one of the bargains of the century, as Haaland only set them back €20 million. However, a big part of his decision to move there was the fact that Die Schwarzgelben were willing to include a release clause of €75 million (£50 million) in his contract.

Real manager Zinedine Zidane is reportedly keen to meet that clause, as he tries to find a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema. Los Galacticos spent €60 million on signing Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt, but the Serb has really struggled to adapt to life at one of the world’s biggest clubs.  He’s only managed two goals in 24 games.

Erling Haaland Will Have the Pick of All European Teams

It’s hard to see which European giants wouldn’t want to sign Haaland. A six-foot-four superhuman goalscorer at the age of just 19, clubs will be falling over themselves to try and secure his signature. Manchester United have been heavily linked with the Leeds born frontman. Despite that, his father recently claimed that the Red Devils didn’t show enough interest in him in January.

Whether that changes in the summer remains to be seen.
