Manuel Neuer’s Career so Far

Neuer has had an incredible career. Having recently turned 34, the German shot-stopper has been arguably the best goalkeeper of the last decade, although David de Gea could also clinch that title.

In the past ten years, he has won the Bundesliga Player of the Season twice, won the top-flight title seven times, as well as winning the Champions League. To top it all off, he won the World Cup with Germany in 2014.

Having come through the academy at FC Schalke 04, Neuer became their starting goalkeeper almost as soon as he was promoted to the first-team. In 2011, having impressed greatly for his boyhood side, Bayern Munich bought the then 25-year-old for over £25 million. Since then, the German outfit have made back their money’s worth, and much more.

Manuel Neuer has kept 191 clean sheets in his 373 appearances for Bayern, conceding just 266. This means that he has shipped just over 0.7 goals per game in his time there, a truly astounding record.

Chelsea’s Goalkeeping Struggles

Kepa Arrizabalaga has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge. Since joining from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2018, he has largely been the first-choice between the sticks for Chelsea, despite his attitude.

Kepa refused to come off in the League Cup final against Manchester City last season.

Now, however, it seems that Willy Caballero has overtaken him in the pecking order. Frank Lampard has alternated between the two in recent weeks. As a result, it could mean the London side will look for a replacement in the summer transfer window. Neuer could be the perfect temporary fix to their problem as they look for a more permanent number one.
