UEFA announced today that three of its club finals have been postponed. This includes the Women’s Champions League final, the Europa League final and the UEFA Champions League final. These would have taken place in May.
UEFA Cup Finals Postponed Indefinitely
UEFA are yet to announce when these finals will reoccur, if at all. The semantics of the ‘postponement’ suggests that there is still a target and belief to complete these competitions. Indeed, this a sentiment shared by the likes of the English FA and the Premier League; they aim to restart the league in June. Covid-19 is not yet at its peak in the European countries and thus completing any of this season’s tournaments before the end of the summer would be a difficult task.
There will be further announcements “in due course” from UEFA.
According to Reuters, there are reports that a final four style tournament may be utilised in Istanbul; in the remaining matches from the quarter-finals, there may be only one leg.
