Close to Joining Liverpool and Arsenal

Lemar could finally get his Premier League transfer after a Liverpool-bound transfer never materialised.

In the summer of 2017, came extremely close to joining both Liverpool and Arsenal.

On deadline day, the two clubs were fighting to get his signature, with the Frenchman lined up as a replacement should players of their own depart. Arsenal had to sell Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City, while Philippe Coutinho’s departure from Liverpool would have prompted the Merseyside team into buying Monaco’s attacker.

The 24-year-old wanted a move to England, with Liverpool his preferred option, however, as Arsenal refused to sell Sanchez to City without his arrival, and the Reds wouldn’t match Monaco’s £92 million valuation, a move across the English Channel never happened.

Disappointing For Atletico Madrid

Lemar has been extremely poor since his big-money move to Spain in 2018. He has scored just three goals in his 67 appearances there, and has certainly not lived up to a transfer fee of over £50 million.

Madrid manager Diego Simeone admitted in an interview that the 24-year-old “hasn’t been able to live up to expectations”. His poor stats speak for themselves. However, a Premier League move could be what he needs to put his previous deadline day drama behind him and focus on football.

Manchester United are now in talks with the Frenchman, according to reports. They join Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham in the race for his signature, however, they seem to be in the most advanced stage of negotiations.

Should he join Manchester United, it is not certain where he would play. Marcus Rashford has firmly established himself as the Red Devils’ first choice left-winger, the position in which Lemar is most comfortable.

Although he is able to play on the right of the attack, the Frenchman is much less experienced there, and based on his performances in La Liga, he may not be able to fill that position regardless.
