Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly sent his personal scout, Simon Wells, to watch Federico Chiesa with the club eyeing the Fiorentina winger.
Manchester United Eye Fiorentina Winger Federico Chiesa
Chiesa at Fiorentina
Chiesa’s boyhood club, Fiorentina, are currently experiencing a difficult period, having been more successful at the 2010s’ beginning. They sit 13th in Serie A, but are being helped incredibly by joint top scorer and assister Chiesa.
He has been good for the Italian outfit for some time as well. Last season he had 17 direct goal involvements, helping his side to the semi-finals of the Copa Italia. The season before, he had thirteen in Serie A alone, so has been consistent for some time, despite his young age. This has now paid off, with clear interest arising from United.
Manchester United Eyeing a Right Winger
Several of the Red Devils’ players have found form this season. Marcus Rashford played wonderfully on the left-wing until his injury in January, Scott McTominay has become one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League, and other players including youngsters Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood have become first-team regulars. Despite this, they are yet to find a right-winger.
With most positions firmly occupied, right-wing seems to be a conundrum for United. Daniel James has spent time there, but is more suited to playing on the left. Mason Greenwood has also tried his luck in the position but is a naturally central striker. With United preferring a formation with wingers, they need to find one.
United have had links to multiple right-sided players in recent months. Most notably, Jadon Sancho is attracting interest all around Europe, and United are most certainly contenders for his signature. Despite this, so many other top clubs are trying to get him, and the Red Devils may not be the most attractive club on the list.
Looking at backups would seem a good idea, and £60m rated Chiesa may be a very good alternative.
