Manchester United may look to sell two underperforming midfielders Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira this summer, according to Jack Otway of The Express.
Manchester United May Sell Underperforming Midfielders Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira
Far From Fans’ Favorites
United fans have been furious at the consistent selection of Lingard and Pereira this season. Their performances have been far from admirable, however with little squad depth, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had little choice.
Poor Performances From Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira
In the 2019/20 season alone, the two have played for a combined 2,500 minutes, but have recorded just one goal. With Lingard not having scored a league goal since December 2018, supporters have been crying out for the pair’s departure. It seems that their prayers have finally been answered. Their consistently bad performances were a catalyst in the acquisition of attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes, and with his incredible start to life in Manchester, it looks that Lingard and Pereira may finally be out.
Bruno Fernandes’ Tremendous Start
Fernandes has had a fantastic start to his Manchester United career. He has one goal and two assists in three league games and has been Man of the Match in every match he has played in a United shirt so far. With Juan Mata as another quality attacking midfielder, the two unpopular players have fallen far down the pecking order. This may also have been brought on by another transfer decision recently made by the Red Devils.
Manchester United Stepping Up Interest in Jack Grealish
Other recent reports have suggested that Manchester United have recently stepped up their interest in Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish. It seems they want to secure a deal before the Englishman makes his international debut, for fear that this would drive up his value. Buying Grealish would further make Pereira and Lingard virtually useless, and with Mata and Fernandes also bringing quality to the side, Manchester United may sell Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard this summer.
