Oxford Win at Promotion Rivals

Back to back league wins have put the U’s just three points off a playoff place. Since the turn of the new year, they picked up just six points from a possible 24.

The U’s thumped AFC Wimbledon during the week before edging past promotion rivals Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon, with Taylor scoring in both games.

Taylor himself took his tally to 14 goals in all competitions following his winner against the Tractor Boys. He has scored four in his last four games following his brace against the Dons and his single at Burton Albion.

Oxford next matches are at home games against Accrington Stanley and strugglers Southend United; the club should target the maximum six points from these two games. They would head into March back in the top six.

Unnecessary Distractions

It seems all well and good on the pitch and the U’s could now mount another push for promotion. But, there appear to be some unnecessary distractions off it.

Reports have suggested that U’s boss Karl Robinson have been made a favourite to take over the vacant managerial role at League One rivals, Blackpool.

The link isn’t necessarily the distraction, more Robinson’s comments post the Ipswich win. The manager said, as reported by the Oxford Mail: “We have to be ambitious, that’s the way it is. I’ve done many games. Whatever happens in my career it doesn’t really matter to me, I only care where my players go.”

Many fans feel the intent behind his response was aimed towards the board after the sale of Shandon Baptiste and Tariqe Fosu to Brentford on deadline day, and a move to Blackpool would locate the U’s boss closer to his native Liverpool.
