Battle to Fend off Threat of Relegation

The appointment of Revell confirms the third permanent manager of the season for Stevenage so far this season; he follows Dino Maamria and Graham Westley through the doors of Broadhall Way this season.

Revell has just 12 games left to try and steer Stevenage clear of relegation. They are currently bottom in League Two, seven points off Macclesfield in 23rd.

Westley steps down as manager of Stevenage with just one win in their last 17 league games. That came in a 4-0 win against Cambridge United in January. His last game as manager came in a 1-0 defeat to Salford City.

As a result, incoming Revell takes up the task of achieving a great escape with his new side. However, it may prove difficult, as it is his first venture into management.

Phil Wallace Recognises Westley’s Work But Acknowledges Need for Change

Speaking to the official Stevenage website, Phil Wallace, Stevenage chairman, said: “We are uncomfortable making yet another change as Graham has worked tirelessly for the Club since the day he arrived, setting up procedures and bringing some good quality new faces in, but with 6 straight defeats and 1 win in 13 league games, we are running out of time and we have to try something new.

“Alex knows the squad, knows the player’s strengths and weaknesses and we are hoping his energy, dedication and enthusiasm will rub off on the lads and bring us the wins we need to survive. It’s a reversal of the Management Team we had in place before Graham came, but Revs has done brilliantly and deserves his chance.”

Revell’s first game in charge will be away to Crawley Town on Saturday 22 February, before hosting Walsall on Saturday 29 February.
