Andrei Girotto Rescues Nantes a Point in Dramatic Draw
Nantes rescued a dramatic point in stoppage as they played out a 3-3 draw with struggling Dijon. The home side looked set to collect a huge three points until Andrei Girotto secured a much-needed point for Nantes, who had lost their last three prior to this game.
There were four goals in the first half of this pulsating contest as both teams scored twice in the opening 34 minutes. The home side twice took the lead through Stephy Mavididi and Julio Tavares, but the visitors responded through Moses Simon and a Mickael Alphonse own goal.
The game looked to be petering out into a draw until Mavididi struck again for Dijon in the 90th minute and that looked set to give Dijon a morale-boosting three points. However, their hearts sank when Andrei Girotto headed past Alfred Gomis to deny Dijon a priceless three points and the chance to maintain their gap between themselves and Nimes.
Despite arresting their three-match losing streak, results elsewhere mean Nantes drop into 12th place. However, Christian Gourcuff will be delighted with the resilience shown by his side to come back three times. Dijon remain in 17th but are now just a point clear of the relegation zone after Nimes made further ground on them.
Paris Saint-Germain Continue Excellent Record Against Lyon
PSG collected a fifth consecutive home over Lyon beating them 4-2 in an excellent contest in the capital. Despite the difficult weather conditions, the game went ahead, and it was a terrific contest between two of France’s biggest football clubs. A deadly 47-minute spell won the game for the league leaders despite Lyon’s best efforts to recover the situation.
Angel Di Maria, Kylian Mbappe and a Marcal own goal put PSG in a commanding position with only 47 minutes played in the capital. However, the visitors rallied and managed to set up a grandstand final 30 minutes thanks to Martin Terrier and the in-form Mousa Dembele. But any hopes of Lyon snatching draw vanquished when Edinson Cavani added a fourth for PSG giving the home side a fifth straight league win.
Lyon slump to a disappointing second loss in three games and the pressure is starting to increase on Rudi Garcia. A run of three wins in nine games has seen Lyon fall to ninth, seven points adrift of the top four. Meanwhile, PSG maintain their 12-point lead at the top.
