Everton will Start Contract Renewal Talks with Mason Holgate
Time With Everton so Far
Mason Holgate joined Everton for £1.2 million from Barnsley in 2015. He has spent some time in the first team at Goodson Park, however at the age of 23, it seems he has finally found consistency. Holgate is a favourite of new manager Carlo Ancelotti, and not without reason. He provides some assists from a very defensive position and has not missed a minute since October. Having become one of their most valuable players recently, Everton will be trying to entice him into a new deal as quickly as they can, with the possibility of interest from top clubs.
Tremendous Versatility
Mason Holgate is a player of extreme versatility. His main position is centre-back, but he is more than capable at both wing-backs and has been played as a right midfielder before too. This amount of versatility is crucial for teams to have, especially in this winter period. With injuries coming in thick and fast, it is important to have players to fill the shoes of anyone injured. With such versatility and incredible quality, Mason Holgate could be in high demand very soon. Attracting him to a new deal would be a very good move on Everton’s part, as it may not be long before the big clubs come to knock on their door.
Mason Holgate is Aiming for International Football
The young English centre-back is currently aiming to play in his national side. He has a good case, having been one of Everton’s best players this year, however coming up against tough opposition. Harry Maguire, who become the world’s most expensive defender when he joined Manchester United last summer, is a strong contender, as is Joe Gomez, starring in an incredible Liverpool side. Chris Smalling’s career has been reignited by a recent loan move to Roma, and fellow Everton centre-back Michael Keane will also contend for this spot, among others.
Everton will start talks with Mason Holgate over renewing his contract soon. This seems to have a good potential ending for both parties. Everton will have a quality player tied to them for longer, and Holgate may get more confidence from this deal. This could help him get into England’s Euro 2020 side, something currently on the mind of many aspiring players.
