Another pulsating round of Ligue 1 matches has come to an end, with plenty of talking points and exciting action. Paris Saint-Germain edged out Nantes to maintain their 12-point lead at the top, Marseille stretched their unbeaten run to 13 games after beating Saint Etienne while there were crucial wins for Monaco, Nimes and Strasbourg.
Ligue 1 Predictions
Stevan Jovetic Secures Roberto Moreno’s First League Win as Monaco Manager
Roberto Moreno secured his first league win in charge of Monaco at the fifth time of asking as they edged out Angers by a single goal. Stevan Jovetic was the hero as his first-half goal secured a first win in 2020 for the Principality club.
It’s a significant win for Monaco, whose season has been hugely disappointing due to inconsistencies in form and changes in the dugout. Jovetic has been given a new lease of life under Moreno and his second goal in as many games was just the tonic for the new manager.
Angers will be disappointed after battling hard, but they couldn’t rescue themselves a positive result as they extended their winless run to four games. Stephane Moulin’s side’s endeavour wasn’t rewarded, and their form continues to dip.
Moreno will hope his side can now build on that win and push towards the European places and the riches that brings. They rise to tenth in the table and find themselves just five points behind Lille, who occupy the final Champions League spot. Angers drop to 13th as their slump continues.
Nimes See off Dijon in Crucial Six-Pointer
Nimes secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they saw off Dijon in the crucial six-pointer at the bottom of the table. Yassine Benrahou and Nolan Roux got the goals as Nimes moved to within three points of safety.
It’s a massive win for Bernard Blaquart’s side as they continue to mount a survival charge in Ligue 1. Benrahou has been excellent since his arrival from Bordeaux and he got them going inside the opening four minutes of the contest. Fellow January recruit Nolan Roux sealed victory on the stroke of half time as he fired a shot into the corner to double their advantage.
Meanwhile, it was a frustrating night for Dijon, whose domination of possession brought no reward as they remain precariously poised above the bottom three. They created several chances but failed to find the net or test home goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni and ultimately, their missed opportunities cost them.
Nimes climb into the relegation play-off place as a result of their victory, which also sees them make ground on Dijon in 17th. Back-to-back wins have arrived at the perfect time for Nimes and they are certainly building some momentum. However, Dijon’s second defeat in three games has left them hovering nervously above the bottom three and with some very difficult fixtures to come against Nantes, Bordeaux, Monaco and PSG.
