Rotherham United have confirmed that defender Richard Wood has agreed to extend his stay with the club until June 2021.
Richard Wood Extends Stay With Rotherham United
Extending His Stay
Wood was out of contract at the end of the current campaign and will now remain until the end of his seventh season with the Millers.
The 34-year-old has been a stalwart of Rotherham’s side across the years, making 143 appearances. He has overseen a turbulent period for the club, as they have gone between League One and the Championship on multiple occasions.
So far this season, he has made 21 appearances in all competitions, as Rotherham currently occupy top spot in the League One table.
What Was Said
Speaking to the official Rotherham United website, Wood said: “I’m very happy, that’s why they call me the Magic Man – I’ve pulled another contract out the hat. I’m really pleased to get it sorted and I’m enjoying my football.
“The main aim is automatic promotion. Now I’ve got this deal sorted out I want us to push on and make sure we go up as champions, then, as club captain I’ll be able to lift that trophy. That’s what we all want and I definitely want it.
“I’m 35 in the summer and I want to keep playing for as long as I can but I want to try and get as many promotions and winners’ medals as I can and one this season would be great.
“I realise what I have to do, I am club captain. If I’m not involved at any point I’ve got to keep the lads going, look after the dressing room, do the community visits and be wherever the club need me to help out.”
Wood is now hoping that he can help the club return to the Championship once more. That quest begins away to Lincoln City on Friday night.
