Bradford City have confirmed that they have reappointed Stuart McCall as their manager on an 18-month contract, having previously sacked Gary Bowyer.

Third Spell in Charge

It is McCall’s third spell in charge at Valley Parade, having held the reigns twice before on a permanent basis.

His first spell came across a two-and-a-half-year period between 2007 and 2010. During that time, he won 46 of 133 games in charge.

McCall’s second, more successful, spell began in 2016. His first season back saw him help the club finish fifth in League One, narrowly missing out on promotion to the Championship.

The 55-year-old now returns with the club currently sitting in eighth in League Two, having been tipped as title contenders at the start of the season.

What Was Said

Speaking about his return to the Bantams, McCall said to the official Bradford City website: “I am naturally delighted to be here again and am fully focused on the 15 games we have left to play.

“It is always difficult taking over from a manager who has lost his job, so I feel for Gary (Bowyer). But, when Julian (Rhodes) contacted me, I was desperate to return.

“We have to assess the squad very quickly and get ready for the remainder of the season. I obviously know a few of the players from my previous spell here, so am looking forward to the challenge.

“The club is a huge one in this division and, with everything still to play for, the job is to try and get us back to where we should be.

“We are going to get our heads down, work as hard as we can and, hopefully, get the best out of what is a strong squad.

“I cannot wait to get on the training pitch with the lads and am really excited to be back in and around the place – ahead of this weekend’s game against Grimsby.”
