The Deal

Scunthorpe announced via their website they had signed the midfielder. Liddle arrives on loan until the end of the season and becomes Scunthorpe’s third January signing.

Liddle arrives from Middlesbrough ready to make his mark in the football league. The 21-year-old is a graduate of the Boro academy and is the current captain of their Under 23 team.

He has made two appearances for the senior Middlesbrough team this season. However, Boro want to improve his football development and education and loan spell in League Two is certainly a good opportunity.

He is a leader in the middle with a decent pass and tenacious endeavour in the middle. A combative figure Scunthorpe have craved with the Iron less than rock solid.

Liddle also knows where the net is. He has scored 10 goals in 11 games for the Under 23s this season which is outstanding for a central midfielder.

He has regularly been on the Boro bench but tasted Championship action just once this campaign against Leeds United.

Liddle has spent time on loan at Forest Green Rovers and Blyth Spartans in non-league. But this will be the midfielder’s first taste of EFL football. He joins a Scunthorpe side looking to finish the season on a high after a disappointing campaign thus far.

They are fourteen points off the play-offs and this week sacked manager Paul Hurst after just six months in charge. Liddle will hope to make a positive impact and impress his parent club in the process.

Middlesbrough regarded him highly and certainly, a good loan spell will put him in Jonathan Woodgate’s plans for next season. A good move for all parties. He could make his debut against Crawley Town tomorrow.
