The Deal

Middlesbrough announced via their website they had signed the defender. Moukoudi arrives on loan for the remainder of the season and is Middlesbrough’s fourth January signing.

The 22-year-old is a hugely talented centre back and a full Cameroon international. He began his career with Ligue 2 side Le Havre, making 63 appearances for them. The defender chipped in with six goals, too, from centre half.

Moukoudi joined Saint Etienne last summer but has been restricted to just 16 appearances in Ligue 1, the French Cup and the Europa League. He is an imposing figure who is physical, strong and good in the air. Moukoudi featured against Middlesbrough when Boro faced Saint Etienne in pre-season.

He is Middlesbrough’s fourth recruit and first defensive signing. Moukoudi is likely to suit Jonathan Woodgate’s back three set up. He looks an excellent addition for Middlesbrough and will have to quickly adapt to English football.

Tomorrow’s game against Blackburn Rovers may come too soon for the defender to make his debut. He is more likely to be given his debut against Brentford on the 8th of February.

What Was Said

Speaking to the Middlesbrough website about his new signing, Jonathan Woodgate said: “We’re delighted to bring Harold into the club.

“He’s a player we’ve been keeping an eye on and it’s a real coup that we’ve been able to bring him here.

“He is a unit of a defender, a real big, strong lad, and he’s a quality player. He’s still young, but he has plenty of experience, having played in the top division in France, in the Europa League, and also for Cameroon.

“He’ll be a very important addition to our squad and will really increase the competition we have for places.”
