Millwall have confirmed that they have signed Luke Steele on loan from fellow Championship side Nottingham Forest until the end of the season.
Luke Steele Joins Millwall on Loan
Re-Joining
Steele spent the first half of this season on loan at The New Den.
During that time he made just two appearances, both of which came in the Carabao Cup. The 35-year-old has provided experienced cover to Bartosz Bialkowski, who has now joined Millwall on a permanent basis.
Steele did return to his parent club Nottingham Forest earlier in the window. However, Frank Fielding – Milwall’s second choice – has been ruled out injured for an undisclosed period. As a result, manager Gary Rowett has decided to recall the experienced shot-stopper.
The experience of Steele may prove vital for Millwall. He has spent much of his career playing in the Championship, predominantly with Barnsley, whom he made over 200 appearances for across seven seasons.
Fourth Signing of the Window for Millwall
The confirmation of Steele’s return signals the fourth signing of the window for Gary Rowett’s side.
He is the second goalkeeper who has signed, followed the decision to turn Bartosz Bialkowski’s loan from Ipswich Town into a permanent move.
The 35-year-old joins Ryan Woods and Mason Bennett as temporary additions to Gary Rowett’s squad. Woods has joined on loan from Stoke City, while Bennett has joined from Derby County.
Gary Rowett will be hoping that his new arrivals can settle in quickly, as they look to mount a push for the Championship play-off places.
Millwall are currently ninth in the second division, three points off of Bristol City, who occupy the last play-off place.
However, they will be looking to bounce back from defeat to Leeds United in their next game against Sheffield Wednesday. They surrendered a two-goal lead away to Leeds last time out.
