Newcastle United Career

Ki Sung-Yueng joined the Magpies in the summer of 2018 and made 23 appearances during his season-and-a-half with the club.

He made 19 of those appearances for Newcastle under the previous manager, Rafa Benitez.

However, under the new regime of Steve Bruce, he has made just four appearances so far this season, the last of which came in their FA Cup third-round tie with Rochdale.

The South Korea international previously spent six seasons with Swansea City during their period in the Premier League. He made over 150 appearances in his time at the Liberty Stadium, scoring 12 times in all competitions.

What Was Said

Speaking to the official Newcastle United website as he departs St James’ Park, the South Korean said: “I am always grateful for our fans’ support.

“It was a great honour and happiness of mine to play for such a great club as Newcastle United.

“I never forget the time with Newcastle fans. It is a pity that I could not do better but sometimes in football, there are things I could not overcome.

“Thanks a lot to everybody and so long.”

Where Next for Ki Sung-Yueng After Newcastle United Departure?

Ki Sung-Yueng is now free to find a new club following his release by Newcastle United.

According to James Copley of The Shields Gazette, the midfielder’s former clubs – Swansea and Scottish Premiership champions Celtic – are both said to be looking to sign Ki.

A move to either side will prove attractive for the 31-year-old. The Swans are currently battling for promotion from the Championship, and are just two points off of the play-off places. Meanwhile, Celtic are battling it out for the title alongside rivals Rangers.
