The Deal

The young striker has been at Aston Villa all his career and even became their youngest ever Premier League debutant against Sunderland in 2015. However, his time at Villa has been blighted with injuries and first-team restrictions.

Hepburn-Murphy does have Football League experience having spent time on loan at Cambridge United and more recently Tranmere Rovers. He scored a handful of goals at Tranmere, including a hat-trick against Milton Keynes Dons earlier this season.

However, Villa recalled the striker earlier today and now he will join their Midland rivals for the remainder of the campaign.

He will join Derby for the rest of the season and go straight into the development squad. The youngster will play for Derby’s U23s and hope to impress Philip Cocu enough to earn a place in the first team.

He has plenty of pace and makes excellent runs in behind. However, he is very raw meaning he doesn’t necessarily score as much as he should. Derby will be delighted to have the youngster on loan.

Philip Cocu is looking to boost his squad with Derby still concerned by Financial Fair Play and relegation worries.

Aston Villa Confirm Hepburn-Murphy’s Departure

In a statement on their website, Villa have confirmed the striker’s departure.

“Rushian Hepburn-Murphy has been recalled from his loan spell at Tranmere Rovers and immediately joined Championship side Derby County on loan until the end of the season.

“The forward made 21 appearances in all competitions for Tranmere, scoring five goals and recording one assist, and he will now spend the rest of the 2019/20 campaign at Pride Park.

“We wish Rushian all the best for his latest loan spell.”
