Everton have insisted that Brazilian forward is not for sale after reportedly rejecting a bid of £85 million from Barcelona. The Spanish side are looking to bring in a new striker after an injury to Luis Suarez, but Sky Sports say the Toffees were quick to reject any approach for one of their prized assets.
Everton Star Richarlison Not for Sale
Barcelona’s Bid
The fact Everton are reported to have rejected such a huge sum of money shows how highly he is valued by the club. Since joining from fellow Premier League side Watford in 2018, he has scored 21 goals in 57 appearances.
Considering Everton’s struggles, particularly this season, this is a decent enough record. But £85 million? It seems incredibly high, regardless of Barcelona’s desperation to bring someone in.
Everton’s rejection certainly shows how important Richarlison is to them, and it is now being reported that the Toffees plan to build the side around him in order to protect him from future interest.
Building Around Richarlison
Phil Kirkbride of the Liverpool Echo reports that new Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti rates Richarlison highly, and as such, wants to build his squad around the Brazilian.
He has been the top scorer since his arrival at the club and is nearing 100 appearances in the Premier League across the two clubs he has represented, showing how well he has adapted to the English top flight.
The Echo say that Everton want much more than the reported offering of £85 million to depart with their star man. It’s no wonder why, considering his importance to the side and the way they play.
Given their position in the Premier League table, though, they are going to need some more strong investment to bring the rest of the team up to scratch in order to keep Richarlison around long-term.
