Third In

Johnson is the third signing by Leyton Orient this January window, following on from Lawrence Vigouroux and Ousseynou Cissé. The Englishman spent his youth career with Middlesborough and Hartlepool United before moving abroad to Spanish club Real Murcia.

The striker spent the 2013/2014 season with non-league Guisborough Town and scored 51 goals in 48 appearances. This impressed Championship club Cardiff City, who signed the Englishman.

Tranmere Rovers and Stevenage were the next clubs for Johnson. The 26-year-old signed for Gateshead, where he thrived and scored for fun. The Englishman moved to Scotland and signed for Motherwell in the Scottish Premier League. After that, the striker moved to Dundee last summer.

Embleton Got His Man

Head Coach Ross Embleton admitted that Johnson had been a long-term target. Speaking on the club website, the boss said: “We’re delighted. It’s a very interesting one with Danny. We’ve tracked him and followed him for a long time now. There were some discussions, going back about 18 months or so where Justin [Edinburgh] had met with him and we spoke about the potential of signing him, but it never quite come off at that stage.

“We’ve continued to follow him, and he is a player that we are delighted to be bringing into the club.”

The striker himself remembered playing at Orient whilst with Gateshead and told of his feelings at signing for The O’s.

“I’m delighted to be here. I played against the club two years go in the National League, on the day – you look at the ground, you look at the size of the club; it’s a great club to come to.

“Everywhere I go, I’m going to score goals. I’m a willing runner, hardworking and a fox in the box.”
