Scunthorpe United have signed goalkeeper Ian Lawlor on loan from Doncaster Rovers. The goalkeeper arrives as Scunthorpe’s second January signing and brings much-needed competition.
Scunthorpe Sign Ian Lawlor on Loan From Doncaster
The Deal
Scunthorpe announced via their website they had signed the goalkeeper. Lawlor arrives on loan from Doncaster for the remainder of the season.
The keeper arrives to compete with current number one Rory Watson. Paul Hurst has been on the hunt for a new keeper after Jake Eastwood was recalled by Sheffield United earlier in the transfer window.
A former Manchester City youngster, Lawlor arrives looking for game time with Doncaster manager Darren Moore preferring to use loanee Seny Dieng.
He is an experienced keeper playing for the likes of Bury and Barnet in the football league. He joined Doncaster in 2017 but has fallen down the pecking order this season.
Lawlor has also represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level. He has made 85 appearances across two and half years at Doncaster including 70 starts.
His arrival provides much-needed competition and a reliable option for Paul Hurst.
He could make his Scunthorpe debut tomorrow when the Iron travel to Sixfields to face Northampton Town.
As Lawlor Arrives, Jamie Ward Departs
As well as announcing the arrival of Ian Lawlor, Scunthorpe have also confirmed the departure of striker Jamie Ward. Ward departs after his short-term contract at Glanford Park expired after Saturday’s game with Crewe Alexandra.
In a statement on the club website, Scunthorpe confirmed: “Scunthorpe United can confirm forward Jamie Ward has officially left the club following the end of his short-term contract.”
“The deal expired after Saturday’s home game against Crewe Alexandra, with him scoring twice in six appearances.”
“We thank Jamie for his efforts while with the Iron and wish him all the best for the future.”
