Northampton Sign Callum Morton and James Olayinka on Loan
The Deal
Northampton announced via their website they had signed the duo. Both Morton and Olayinka arrive on loan for the rest of the season.
The duo arrive as Northampton’s second and third January signings after Mark Marshall joined on Saturday.
Morton is a striker and he arrives on loan from Championship leaders West Brom. The striker is no stranger to time out on loan, but this will be his first taste of EFL football. He brings pace and an eye for goal.
Olayinka is a young box to box midfielder who arrives on loan from Arsenal. He impressed manager Keith Curle during a Leasing.com trophy game in which Olayinka scored. He brings creativity and energy to a relatively experienced Northampton midfield.
The duo arrive looking to help Northampton seal promotion to League One. The Cobblers are enjoying an excellent and find themselves in the play-off places just four points off Plymouth in the final automatic spot.
Both are available for tomorrow night’s game against Scunthorpe United.
What Was Said
Speaking to the Northampton website about his new signings, Keith Curle said: “James is a dynamic midfielder who we saw play well against us earlier in the season.”
We have tracked him closely and seen him play in a number of under 23 games and he has always impressed us.
“He is a box to box, he has a lot of energy, he creates chances, he scores goals and he doesn’t mind a tackle either.”
“He can hunt the ball down and he enjoys the competitive side of the game.”
“Callum is a striker who likes to play in behind defences. He can handle himself physically, he knows where the goal is, and he can be a threat.”
“Callum has a great work ethic; he will chase everything, and he is a real nuisance to play against. Callum is desperate to make an impact; he has that hunger about him and he has got good ability.”
“These new additions, along with Mark Marshall of course, give us a freshness in what is a busy run of matches and they offer different options and increased competition for places.”
