The Deal

Northampton announced via their website they had signed the winger. Marshall arrives on an initial deal until the end of the season with the Cobblers having the option to extend his stay.

Marshall is a vastly experienced winger making over 350 appearances. He has played for the likes of Coventry City, Swindon Town, Port Vale and Bradford City.

He played an important role in Charlton Athletic’s promotion campaign last season. Marshall helped Charlton secure their place in the Championship before leaving at the end of the season. The winger joined Gillingham but left earlier this week after mutually agreeing to part ways.

The Cobblers are delighted to have him. He arrives as Keith Curle’s second signing this window. Marshall arrives determined to help the Cobblers in the promotion race.

They are enjoying an excellent season and certainly, Keith Curle is targeting players who can bolster his squad and make a match-winning contribution.

Marshall could make his debut on Tuesday when Northampton welcome Scunthorpe United to Sixfields.

What Was Said

Speaking to the Northampton website about his new signing, manager Keith Curle said: “Mark is a player we are delighted to have been able to bring in as he has a lot of interest from clubs in a higher division.

“He is a player with pace, trickery, a strong work ethic and he is a player the supporters will enjoy watching.

“As supporters will know, he has the ability to take players on, to create chances for others and to get people on the edge of their seats.

“He can play on either wing and deliver crosses with either foot and he has a record of playing his part in successful promotion campaigns. We were aware that his contract was ending at Gillingham and so we remained patient and worked hard to get this deal done against some really strong competition and I am delighted we have done so.

“Mark is a quality addition to the squad and I believe he will be an asset to us.”
