Blackpool have signed goalkeeper Chris Maxwell. Maxwell arrives on a free transfer after he was released by Preston North End earlier this week. The keeper joins as Blackpool’s latest addition after seeing his loan cut at Hibernian.
Blackpool Sign Goalkeeper Chris Maxwell
Blackpool announced via their website they had signed the keeper. Maxwell arrives on a free transfer signing a deal until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old keeper joins after a turbulent season thus far. He played 17 times for Hibernian before Preston recalled him. Preston and Maxwell then agreed to mutually part ways.
The keeper reunites with Blackpool manager Simon Grayson and returns to the Fylde coast after a terrific spell in Fleetwood which saw promotion in 2014.
Grayson will be delighted to boost his goalkeeping department after Jak Alnwick sustained an arm injury. Maxwell will look to establish himself as the Blackpool number one in the meantime.
Maxwell could make his debut against Wycombe in a few days’ time with Blackpool not in action this weekend. He could play an important role as Blackpool look to pull themselves back into the promotion race.
What Was Said
Speaking to the Blackpool website about his move, Maxwell said: “I’m really excited (about the move).”
“When the opportunity arose to work under Simon Grayson again, it was something that jumped out at me, to be honest. I’m really glad it’s finally done and I’m looking forward to my time here.”
Chief Executive Ben Mansford added, “With the injury to Jak Alnwick, it was important that we brought in a proven goalkeeper to provide the best competition possible and in signing Chris, we have done just that.”
“Chris has the required ability, experience and personality to handle the business end of the season and we are all pleased to have him with us until the end of the season.”
