Sheffield United Sign Defender Jack Robinson From Nottingham Forest
Sheffield United announced via their website they had signed the versatile defender. Robinson arrives for an undisclosed fee signing a two- and half-year contract at Bramall Lane.
The defender arrives as Chris Wilder’s second January signing. Robinson follows Jack Rodwell in joining Sheffield United this month.
Robinson is a vastly experienced defender; he has played for the likes of QPR, Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest. However, this will be his first taste of Premier League football have made his name in the Championship.
Robinson began his career at Liverpool and made three league appearances but could never establish himself at Anfield. He has become a fixture wherever he has played and certainly gives Chris Wilder a good option defensively.
Robinson can play anywhere in defence. He is naturally a centre half so will compete with Jack O’Connell, Chris Basham and John Egan. However, Sabri Lamouchi used Robinson as a left-back. Robinson could also compete with Enda Stevens for the wing-back role on the left.
Chris Wilder continues to pluck quality from the Championship. The Blades are having a tremendous season and are pushing hard for a Europa League place.
Sheffield United’s game with Manchester City comes too soon for Robinson. He may be cup-tied for their 4th Round FA Cup tie against Millwall. He could make his debut on February 1st against Crystal Palace.
What Was Said
Speaking to the Sheffield United website about his new signing, manager Chris Wilder said, “Jack’s got a great pedigree and he will make our squad stronger.”
“But he isn’t just coming in to make the numbers up, it’s a specific position in our system and we feel he is the best option for us at this time.”
“Jack can comfortably play in a couple of roles and we’re delighted to add him to the group. He’s got a fantastic attitude and he’s ambitious to earn a place in the team.”
