Wycombe Wanderers have made their first January signing. The Chairboys have re-signed full-back, Jason McCarthy, on loan from Millwall for the remainder of the season.
Wycombe Wanderers Sign Jason McCarthy on Loan from Millwall
The Deal
Wycombe announced via their website they had signed the Millwall defender. McCarthy arrives for a third spell at Wycombe after initially leaving the club in the summer.
McCarthy reunites with Gareth Ainsworth who is delighted to have him back. He had just five appearances for Millwall before Gary Rowett took over. The move presents an opportunity for McCarthy to get some much-needed game time after struggling to make an impact at Millwall.
He returns aiming to help Wycombe get their form back on a track. A run of four defeats in five amassing just one point in that time.
McCarthy made his debut and scored in Wycombe’s crucial win against Rochdale today. A terrific third debut for him. The 24-year-old is already a loved figure at the club having won player of the year during his first spell in 2015/16.
What Was Said
Speaking to the Wycombe website about re-signing McCarthy, manager Ainsworth said: “Once we knew Jason was available, we had no hesitation in bringing him back to the club to strengthen our defensive options, because we know all about what a first-class player and professional he is to have around the place.
“With Jack having been injured in recent weeks, we wanted to make sure we had another option at right-back and also in the middle of the defence, and Jason fits the bill perfectly.
“The boys loved having him back around the place today. I’ve no doubt he’ll settle right back in and hit the ground running. I’m sure the fans can’t wait to see him back in Wycombe colours and picking up where he left off last season.”
