Crewe Alexandra have made their first January signing. The Railwaymen have signed defender Michael Nottingham on loan from Blackpool for the rest of the season.
Crewe Alexandra Sign Michael Nottingham
The Deal
Crewe announced via their website they had signed the defender. Nottingham arrives on loan for the remainder of the season.
Nottingham joined Blackpool in 2018 and has made 32 appearances for the Seasiders scoring two goals.
He arrives as Crewe’s first signing of the January window as the Alex look to secure promotion in May.
Nottingham could make his debut this weekend when Crewe face promotion rivals Cheltenham in a key game at the top of the table.
‘A Good Move for Nottingham’
Blackpool chief executive Ben Mansford spoke to the Blackpool website about Nottingham’s move. Mansford said: “This is a good move for Michael and one where he’ll get the opportunity to play on a more consistent basis again. He’s a great lad and we wish him all the very best.”
Nottingham is looking for so much needed game time having struggled to break into Simon Grayson’s team since he took over in the summer.
Artell Admits a Permanent Deal for Chuma Anene Will Be Difficult
Chuma Anene has been a terrific signing for Crewe. The striker is in terrific form scoring seven goals in his last nine games. However, he is only on loan and Crewe are desperate to keep him at Gresty Road.
Manager David Artell has admitted a permanent deal will be difficult to pull off. Artell told the Crewe website: “The signing has come off on both sides and we are in contact with the people at Midtjylland.
“It probably looked a bit bleak when he wasn’t playing but Chuma understood that we needed time to integrate him into the way we wanted him to play and what we wanted him to do. I would think he has enjoyed his time here so far and he has probably learned a lot.
“He is a good player and now he will running Ports close for the top scorer, so that is only good news for us. What we need them to do is now to get to 15+ and perhaps one of them getting 20 goals because that would give us a great chance.
“I would love to have Chuma, but he has two and a half years left on his deal. I will put my lottery on and if the numbers come up then I would go for Chuma.”
