Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Gedson Fernandes on an 18-month loan deal.

The 21-year-old is likely to be thrown straight action, with Tottenham having a number of problems in central midfielder.
Jose Mourinho is currently without the French duo of Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndbombele after both being ruled out by injuries.
Furthermore, the Tottenham boss has chopped and changed in midfield since his arrival. As a result, Fernandes can stake a claim to become the first choice over the next 18 months, and persuaded Tottenham to make his deal permanent.
Despite featuring sparsely this season, the Portuguese international is highly-regarded by parent club Benfica. He has featured 43 times for the club, but only seven of those have come this season.

Speaking to the official Tottenham website, the young midfielder said: “I’m very happy to be here today – I make my dream a reality.
“For me, it’s one big dream to come to this club. I will try to give my best for the club every day, in every training session and in every game and I will try to help the team wherever I can, working hard every day for this shirt. This is a fantastic challenge that I have accepted and I have to win my challenge. I want to make good things – let’s see!”
Analysing the competitiveness of the Premier League, Fernandes said: “The Premier League is a different competition – every player in the world wants to play in the Premier League. For me, it’s one motivation because I always dreamed of playing in this league and now let’s make my dream come true.
“I think we’re going to do fantastic things because this is a fantastic club.”
