What Was Said
Huddersfield announced via their website they had signed the experienced defender. Stearman arrives as Danny Cowley’s second January signing.
He is an experienced head ready to steer Huddersfield clear of relegation.
Speaking to the Huddersfield website, manager Danny Cowley said: “Richard brings experience and leadership qualities that will definitely add to our dressing room.
“He was a key component of creating an outstanding culture at Sheffield United and he’ll provide a fantastic example for our young professionals day in and day out.
“On the pitch, he’s positionally intelligent, physically robust and a great communicator.”
Stearman could make his debut in the Yorkshire derby with Barnsley this weekend.
Sheffield United and Stearman Agreed to Mutually Parted Ways
Sheffield United have also confirmed Stearman’s departure. In a statement on their website, the Blades confirmed: “Richard Stearman has departed Bramall Lane after both parties agreed to mutually terminate his contract.
“The agreement now allows the 32-year-old to join Championship club Huddersfield Town.”
The defender joined the Blades in 2017 but struggled to nail down a place under Chris Wilder making just 52 appearances during his time in Sheffield.
A Good Day For Huddersfield
Its been an excellent day in the transfer window for Huddersfield, gaining an experienced head to steady the defence and a talented forward ready to light up the Championship in Emile Smith Rowe.
Danny Cowley is slowly moulding a squad mixed with youth and experience. Stearman adds a dominating voice and presence in the defence.
He could form an excellent partnership alongside Christopher Schlinder. Smith Rowe is raw talent ready to test himself in the Championship. Cowley has watched him for months and now he’s got his man.
