Familiar Face

Coyle is already a familiar face within the Fleetwood dressing room, having had three individual loan spells with the club.

He initially joined on a season-long loan deal in the summer of 2017. He made 47 appearances during his first season with the Fishermen. At the end of the season, he collected the Players Player of the Year award.

The 24-year-old then returned to the club under the current manager Joey Barton for a second loan spell last season. He went on to make 45 appearances in all competitions.

However, after impressive in the first half of this season, Barton has opted to sign the right-back on a permanent basis.

Barton Delighted

Joey Barton expressed delight at Coyle making the permanent switch to Highbury Stadium, saying: “We are delighted to sign Lewie on a permanent basis. He has developed so much as a player and we see enormous potential in him.

“He has gone from a good defender to a very good attacking full-back, whose game intelligence has grown game-by-game.

“There was a number of clubs interested in him because he has been doing so well, but he’s decided that this is the place he is going to improve.”

Coyle also spoke to the Fleetwood Town website, saying: “I’m absolutely delighted, it’s nice to finally fully commit my future to this club.

“It’s a club that has given me massive opportunities in the past, I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been here on loan previously but it’s nice to put pen to paper and commit my future here on a permanent basis.”

Fleetwood currently occupy seventh place in League One, level on points with Peterborough United in sixth.
