New Challenge
The 20-year-old is set for a new challenge with the League Two side, having failed to break into the first-team at Derby County.
Hunt was limited to appearances for the Rams’ U23 side, before spending the first half of this season on loan with Aldershot Town.
However, it was a successful loan for Hunt, where he made 21 appearances in the Vanarama National League.
As a result of his loan, he caught the attention of Carlisle. Speaking about Hunt’s first half of the season, manager Chris Beech said: “That gave him the chance to get a taste of conference football and it’s a spell he enjoyed. He’s a big lad with a great attitude and I’m really pleased he’s joined us, because I do know that there was interest in him from other clubs.”
According to Beech, Hunt could have remained at Pride Park instead of making the move north. He said: “I also know Derby were quite happy to retain him for another year, with a view to getting him out on loan again. For us to get him on a permanent deal in these circumstances is very good news for us now, and in the future.”
Speaking to the Carlisle United website, the manager continued: “While we understand none of us are the finished article, he’s already demonstrated that he wants to improve and progress, and the positive mental approach he has towards this next step really came across when I met him and spoke to him.”
Hunt is joining Carlisle at a tricky time. They are currently in 21st place in League Two, just seven points ahead of the relegation zone.
