What Was Said
Ludewig arrives as new manager Gerhard Struber’s second signing after Marcel Ritzmaier joined last week.
Speaking to the Barnsley website about his move, Ludewig said: “I know the trainer here, Gerhard, he called me and asked for me to come. We have worked together before, this was important for me as I like his style and his discipline, we will work well together again.
“Barnsley is a very traditional club; I have been watching videos of the fans and I liked this. I enjoyed how the fans feel when Barnsley score, I like to watch the celebrations and it feels like a close connection. I am now excited to play my first game; it is a big game against a local team, so we hope to win this game.”
Gerhard Struber is delighted to have secured on his main transfer targets. He told the Barnsley website “He is one of the biggest talents in the German youth football, especially from the defence”.
“He has a great mentality and wants to grow up with us, to continue learning his game. I have coached him before in FC Liefering and I have a lot of trust in him.
“He’s very quick, strong and also offers nice passes. He knows my style which is very important to us, so he will be able to offer competition for places in both our full-back places as he can play both sides.”
Ludewig Aiming to Help a Leaky Barnsley Defence
Barnsley have found a way to score since Gerhard Struber took over but they are still conceding plenty of goals. Ludewig’s arrival is a big boost for Struber as he aims to shore up Barnsley’s leaky defence.
Ludewig could be a key player in Barnsley’s relegation fight if he adapts quickly to English football.
