Bristol Rovers have completed their second signing of the January window. The Gas have signed Reading midfielder Josh Barrett for an undisclosed fee. He is new manager Ben Garner’s second recruit since taking over in late December.
Bristol Rovers Sign Josh Barrett
A Midfielder With a Point to Prove
He arrives on a two- and half-year contract for an undisclosed fee. He is the second signing under new manager Ben Garner. Garner is yet to win since taking over from Graham Coughlan as he attempts to get the team playing his way.
Barrett has been on the fringes of the Reading first team for a long time without getting a real run in the team. The Royals have cashed in and ultimately, he will be out to prove his worth to the Bristol Rovers team.
The midfielder is raring to go and ready to show his abilities. Barrett has experienced having spent time out on loan with Coventry and non-league Aldershot.
Ben Garner is delighted to have him on board calling him a player who will “add another dimension to our squad” and “showed the hunger to play for Rovers”.
Barrett could make his debut in the EFL trophy when Rovers entertain League Two Stevenage. His league debut for Rovers could be this weekend when Doncaster visit the Memorial Stadium.
Josh Barrett Has Proven Quality
The young midfielder possesses plenty of qualities and certainly brings something different to the Bristol Rovers midfield. He is excellent on the ball and knows how to score goals.
Barrett will provide good competition for the likes of Liam Sercombe, Abu Ogogo, Ollie Clarke and Ed Upson.
Barrett’s arrival continues Ben Garner’s Rovers revolution. He is slowly getting the team to adapt to his style of play and clearly midfield and the wings is areas he wants to improve.
