A number of Championship clubs are said to be interested in Sheffield United defender Ben Heneghan, according to Sky Sports.
REPORT: Championship Trio Looking to Sign Sheffield United Defender Ben Heneghan
Impressing Out On Loan
Blackburn Rovers, Luton Town and Wigan Athletic are said to be leading the race for the 26-year-old, who is currently on loan at Blackpool.
The central-defender has been impressing while out on loan at Blackpool, having returned to the Tangerines in the summer.
He has 20 appearances at the heart of Simon Grayson’s defence, helping them to a respectable 10th place in League One so far this season.
However, he is set to return to Bramall Lane, with his loan deal expiring on January 14.
Speaking to Matt Scrafton of the Blackpool Gazette, manager Simon Grayson has said he would like Heneghan to remain at the club on a ‘permanent basis’.
Sheffield United Are Looking To Cash In On Heneghan
Ben Heneghan has failed to force his way into the first-team at Sheffield United.
Having joined in 2017, he has made just one appearance for the Blades.
As a result, he has been deemed surplus to requirements, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, the Blades are looking to offload him this window.
Useful Addition For Championship Clubs?
Having impressed while on loan at Bloomfield Road, Heneghan is now hoping that he can prove to be a useful addition for Championship clubs.
Both Luton and Wigan will be hoping that they can add Heneghan to their squad. The former have the worst defence in the division, and as a result, are looking to improve in order to fend off relegation.
Meanwhile, Blackburn will see him as a back-up option. Tony Mowbray’s side currently lie in 13th place, seventh points off of the play-off positions.
