Portsmouth FC have announced the signing of defender Steve Seddon from Championship side Birmingham City.
Steve Seddon Signs on Loan With Portsmough From Birmingham City
Lack of Opportunities
Having only made four appearances for the Blues so far this season, the left-back has been looking for more playing time.
Last season Seddon spent time on loan at both Stevenage FC and AFC Wimbledon; the defender helped AFC Wimbledon avoid relegation.
During those spells, the 22-year-old made 43 appearances and scored six goals.
Having suffered from a shortage of players in the defensive area, due to injuries to Lee Brown and Brandon Haunstrup, young Seddon adds balance with his attacking play.
The 22-year-old told the club website: “I was keen to get out on loan because I’ve been lacking game-time and Pompey got in touch.
“I believe that I can bring a lot of energy and a decent delivery. I enjoy my defending, but I also enjoy getting forward.”
Aiming High
Helping Wimbledon avoid relegation has given Seddon an appetite for more. The defender has set his sights on getting Pompey promoted to the EFL Championship. Portsmouth currently sit in ninth place in the table.
Seddon is aiming high, again speaking on the club website the defender said “The long-term ambition for me is to keep working my way up and play at as high a level as I possibly can.
“But right now I’m looking to help get Pompey promoted and I’m excited about the challenge. Let’s take one game at a time and try to climb the table”
Seddon was part of the Birmingham City team that was beaten by Portsmouth in the Carabao cup.
The defender has experience of playing against his “new” team.
The 22-year-old remembers that night very well.
He told the club that it was a very frustrating game, but he is now looking forward to making better memories at Fratton Park.
