Jose Mourinho Jokes Amazon Could ‘Have One Episode’ on Tottenham Hotspur Defensive Frailties

Jose Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has been left frustrated with his side’s defensive issues once again, suggesting that a whole Amazon episode can be made on Spurs’ back-line blunders.

The festive period is a time of giving, and Spurs have been extremely generous over recent weeks. The North London outfit’s defensive troubles were evident yet again, with Norwich City benefiting this time round. Defensive frailties throughout the game have left Spurs ruing the chance to close the gap to the top four.

Documenting Defensive Problems

On paper, a relegation contender may look like it shouldn’t pose too many issues going forward. But that wasn’t the case for Norwich City against Tottenham, who weren’t afraid to attack them. A poor giveaway by Argentinian defender Juan Foyth and an unfortunate own-goal by Serge Aurier summed up a pretty dismal display all-round.

The ups and downs of Tottenham’s season are being captured by the Amazon cameras for the latest edition of the ‘All or Nothing’ behind-the-scenes documentary series. Jose Mourinho has taken the opportunity to vent his frustrations following the draw at Carrow Road, stating that an entire Amazon episode can be made purely on Tottenham’s defensive blunders.

“I think the same defensive mistakes we made in the first half, we made in the second half,” Mourinho told Sky Sports. “This is being a little bit of our history.

“If Amazon wants to do episodes, they will for sure have one episode about our defensive mistakes and the goals we concede.”

Seeking the Positives and Seeking Improvement

The Spurs boss hasn’t been all doom and gloom following the disappointing result and appears to be continuing his new-look approach to management. The Portuguese has been picking up the positives and acknowledges he has work to do to steady the backline.

He said: “We started very, very well. I think we had three or four big chances in the beginning of the first half. But we conceded two very bad goals, the first one and the one that was offside.

“In the second half, I think we were very, very good with the ball. We created, we dominated the play but again the goal [conceded] is a very bad one. You cannot concede as many goals as we do.

“I have lots of work to do but it’s difficult,” he added. “I always say we have to try to hide our fragilities. That is an important thing in football. If you have fragilities, you have to try to hide them.”

Mourinho will hope to see an improved defensive showing when he takes his side on the road again for a New Year’s Day clash with Southampton at St. Mary’s.
