Juventus and Lazio will clash in what is sure to be one of the greatest games of this season.
Juventus and Lazio to Contest Italian Super Cup Final
History Being Made
The match will be held at King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The Italian Super Cup is held between the previous year’s Serie A champions, Juventus, and Coppa Italia victors, Lazio. This is a historic match, for the first time in the history of Saudi Arabia, supporters will be allowed in with a tourist visa. Furthermore, there will be no limitations on the entry of women to the game. This is a positive change from last year; women were not allowed into the stadium unless accompanied by men. This year, women will not even be obligated to wear abayas, a Muslim garment.
The Background
Amazingly, the most frequent Supercoppa matchup is Juve – Lazio; a matchup will occur five times. In their last meeting in this competition, Lazio came away with a 3 – 2 win, making this match even more interesting. Not only that, but at the begining of this month the Eagles and Biaconeri met in the Serie A, with the Eagles prevailing 3 – 1. That match blocked Juve from climbing into first in the league. The Biaconeri will be ready to strike back and get their revenge. Juventus have won this honor a record eight times, one of those being last year. As defending champions, they will be fierce to keep their title.
Tactics
This game will be a highly tactical encounter. These sides already met earlier in the month so Sarri and Inzaghi will have to keep their tactics fresh. The last game was highly attacking, as would be expected from these sides, so the managers will have to find a way to protect their net. Inzaghi has already won the competition with Lazio, while on the other hand Sarri will be looking for his first trophy with Juve.
Two Attacking Powerhouses
That doesn’t mean the game won’t be extremely attacking focused. Both these sides still feature potent attacks. Last year Ronaldo scored the only goal in the Super Cup, which led the Biaconeri to the win. This is something that he will want to repeat. Cristiano Ronaldo is in a great run of form as of late, having scored twice last game, and he’ll be hoping to continue that, by contributing with some goals. Immobile, is also a striker on fire, with seventeen goals and five assists in only sixteen Serie A matches. Both these players will be looking to lead their sides to silverware.
This game means more. This is a clash between to storied sides that seem to always meet. It is a battle of tactical brilliance between Sarri and Inzaghi. It is an encounter of two goal-scoring machines. Most importantly, it represents rights for women in the Middle East.
