Liverpool begin their Club World Cup campaign against Mexican side Monterrey this evening. Jurgen Klopp has taken his entire first team to Qatar in a bid to secure Liverpool’s second piece of silverware in 2019. However, they will face a stern test from the Mexican side as Liverpool look to progress to the final.
Liverpool Face Monterrey at Club World Cup
Georginio Wijnaldum Ruled Out, Virgil van Dijk Fit
The Reds head to Qatar full of confidence after a tremendous start to the season. Jurgen Klopp is determined to bring more silverware to Anfield and the Club World Cup is the perfect opportunity to bring more. He has taken the entire first team with only Joel Matip and Fabinho left out due to their injuries.
Liverpool entertain Monterrey, who won the Concacaf Champions League to secure their place in Qatar. They reached the semi-finals of the competition by beating Al-Sadd on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp has admitted he won’t take them lightly and is full of respect for the Mexican club. They bring plenty of pace and power up-front which could see them exploit the space the Liverpool full-backs leave behind.
Virgil van Dijk is fully fit and available despite reports he wasn’t training with the first team ahead of the game. Klopp confirmed the Dutch defender is available and is expected to start alongside Joe Gomez tomorrow afternoon. However, Georginio Wijnaldum is ruled out with a muscle injury. The Dutch midfielder went off against Watford on Saturday and has failed to recover in time for the game. However, Jurgen Klopp confirmed in his press conference Wijnaldum’s injury is “not as serious as first thought”. Other than Wijnaldum, Liverpool have a fully fit squad available for Wednesday’s semi-final.
Liverpool Seeking World Domination
The Reds are just two wins away from becoming the world champions of club football. Jurgen Klopp wants trophies and his team will fancy securing a second title this year. His players know the winning feeling and they will be determined to continue their amazing success. Their front three will be vital in the next few days with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino expected to start both games.
Another trophy would crown an amazing 2019 for Jurgen Klopp and his players. He will be quietly confident his side can get the job done before they return to domestic action on Boxing Day.
