Macclesfield Town owner Amar Alkadhi is in advanced talks to sell the club, according to BBC Sport. The Silkmen were due to play in League Two today against Crewe Alexandra, but after players met with members of the EFL, the game was suspended due to the health and wellbeing of the Macclesfield players not being high after months of unpaid wages.

A Number of Options
In a short statement on the club website, Alkadhi said: “Majority shareholder Amar AlKadhi would like to advise that he is currently in advanced negotiations with various third parties, with a view to selling his stake in Macclesfield Town Football Club.
“Although we are bound by obvious legal restrictions at this present time, a further update will be made as soon as we possibly can.”
Ravaged by Off-Field Issues
Macclesfield have been ravaged by issues off the pitch in recent seasons. They have been hit with a winding-up order by HMRC, which was supported by former manager Sol Campbell, who kept the Silkmen up in League Two last season against all the odds.
The ex-England defender is reportedly owed £180,000 by the club.
In addition, the club are now facing a misconduct charge from the EFL, similar to the one Bolton Wanderers received for not fulfilling their match against Doncaster Rovers this season, after calling off their match against Crewe.
Players on Strike
The suspension of the Crewe game comes after players went on strike over the unpaid wages and the effect it is having on their mental health.
Former Macclesfield goalkeeper Rhys Taylor said the players had no choice in doing what they have done and also revealed that he went three months unpaid by the club over one summer, and they also refused to pay for his hip surgery.
He told BBC Sport: “Hopefully now with what the players have decided to do, people realise what needs to be done and will stop making it so difficult for someone to come in and take over.”
“It will make such a difference in the community when someone does.”
