Pep Clotet has been given the head coach role at Birmingham City on a permanent basis. The Spaniard had been in the role in a caretaker capacity since June following an overhaul of the club’s structure, but the Blues have now confirmed the appointment of Clotet to the role.
Pep Clotet Becomes Head Coach at Birmingham City
Well Known at the Club
Clotet joined Birmingham in March 2018 as the assistant to Garry Monk. The former Swansea City and Middlesbrough manager left the club in the summer as a result of the restructuring, with Clotet taking over.
Ahead of Birmingham’s game against Sheffield Wednesday, where Monk is currently in charge, the former boss laid into Clotet. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
What Was Said
In a statement on the club’s website, the board said: “Pep has shown his coaching expertise, man-management and leadership skills, allied to exemplary professional conduct, that can help take the club forward.
“We have a clear vision of what our footballing philosophy needs to be and Pep and his staff have begun to implement that in a short space of time.
“He has also brought out the best of, and trusted in, our young players. This is another important part of our strategy. The club must be together as one, with the same togetherness and ethos through from the academy, the under-23s to the first team.
“We trust that our supporters will continue to get behind Pep, the coaching staff and the players, all of whom are passionate about bringing success to Birmingham City and have the club’s interests at heart.”
