While he has not yet been sacked, Everton manager Marco Silva is on the verge of losing his job, writes Chris Beesley of the Liverpool Echo. According to Jason Burt of The Telegraph, should Silva be sacked, then Everton have identified fellow Portuguese manager Jorge Jesus as their number one candidate.
Everton Could Turn to Jorge Jesus
Who is Jorge Jesus?
The 65-year-old is already well-respected within the world of football management. However, his name has come into prominence after his Flamengo side triumphed in the Copa Libertadores final.
Two goals in the final two minutes from striker Gabriel Barbosa sealed the win over River Plate in the final. As a result, it secured Flamengo’s first Copa Libertadores title since 1981.
Before moving to the Brazilian giants, Jesus had a brief spell in charge as manager of Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. However, before that, he had spent the entirety of his managerial career in Portugal. He is best known for his tenure with Benfica, which lasted more than six years.
Potential Return of Former Everton Manager
However, Jorge Jesus is not Everton’s only target. According to Darren Lewis of the Daily Mirror, Everton have also identified former manager David Moyes for a potential return to Goodison Park.
Moyes is best known for his spell as manager at Everton. He spent 11 years in the blue half of Merseyside, managing them in UEFA Cup campaigns and transformed the Toffees into a successful side.
However, they will face a tussle for the services of the Scotsman. Lewis reports that West Ham United are also looking at his services as they consider whether to sack their manager, Manuel Pellegrini. The Hammers have seen a downturn in form after a good start to the season. As a result, it could cost the West Ham manager his job at the London Stadium.
