Another pulsating round of Ligue 1 matches has come to an end, with plenty of talking points and exciting action. Dijon stunned Paris Saint-Germain, whose lead at the top of Ligue 1 has been cut to seven points. Meanwhile, Bordeaux secured victory in the first Atlantique Derby of the season and Marseille edged out Lille.
Dijon Stun Leaders Paris Saint-Germain
Paris Saint-Germain Left to Rue Missed Opportunities
Dijon secured a famous victory as they came from behind to beat Paris Saint-Germain. Goals from Mounir Chouiar and Jhonder Cadiz secured Dijon a third win of the season.
PSG were left to rue several missed opportunities on a miserable night for the league leaders. The signs looked ominous for Dijon when Kylian Mbappe fired PSG ahead. However, the hosts stayed in the contest and equalised on the cusp of half time, Chouiar firing into the bottom corner. Cadiz notched Dijon’s winning goal just two minutes into the second half. Mauro Icardi, Angel Di Maria and Mbappe all wasted chances to rescue the game.
The result sees Dijon climb out of the relegation zone. PSG remain top, but their lead has been cut to seven points.
Patrick Vieira’s Nice Secure a Much Needed Victory
Nice secured a first win in six games as they breezed past Reims. The best defence in Ligue 1 was breached twice on the Riviera. The game’s big moment came midway through the first half when Reims were reduced to ten men. Moussa Doumbia was given a second yellow card for a challenge on Youcef Atal.
It took Nice just six minutes to capitalise as Wylan Cyprien curled in a brilliant effort from outside the box. Nice soon doubled their advantage thanks to Christophe Herelle. The big centre half rose highest from a corner to give Nice a comfortable advantage.
Reims rallied in the second half but couldn’t manage to find a breakthrough. Nice saw out the contest to collect a much needed three points and a clean sheet.
The result sees Nice climb to 13th while Reims drop to seventh.
