Stoke City’s Failed Experiment With Nathan Jones
Following the sacking of Gary Rowett, Stoke turned to Nathan Jones, considering him as an up-and-coming manager. The 46-year-old had seen great success in his previous job at Luton Town, achieving promotion from League Two and then taking them to second place in League One before leaving for Stoke City.
However, he has endured a miserable nine months with the former Premier League club. He has seen only six wins during his time in the Potteries and has suffered 17 defeats. As a result, he leaves Stoke 23rd in the 2019/20 Championship table, with just two wins all season and four points from safety.
What Was Said
A brief statement was published on the Stoke City website. The departing Nathan Jones said: “I would like to thank John and Peter Coates, firstly for the opportunity to manage this football club and then for the continued support and patience throughout my time here.
“I would also like to thank the supporters for their fantastic support. Finally, I wish the club the very best for the future.”
What Next?
Rory Delap, Kevin Russell and Andy Quy have been appointed as caretakers while the quest for a new manager begins. Stoke will be looking for a manager that can steer them clear of a relegation battle.
Early favourites’ for the job suggest that a return to the bet365 Stadium could be on the cards for Tony Pulis. The Welshman has been without a job since leaving Middlesbrough at the end of last season.
