Vardy currently has nine goals from ten games for Leicester this season in the Premier League. Six of those have come in the last four games, but it still rules him as the top scorer in the top-flight so far this season. It ranks him above the likes of Sergio Aguero and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as well as his English counterparts Harry Kane, Tammy Abraham, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Callum Wilson.

As a result, it looks like the 32-year-old will easily surpass the 20 goal mark for Leicester City this season. In his last five seasons, Vardy has gone past that mark twice, while scoring 16 and 18 goals retrospectively in the other two seasons. Compared to those currently selected by the England manager, only Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling boast a more clinical record than Vardy across the past four season.

Jamie Vardy Can Still Make An Impact For England

The Englishman can still make an impact for his country’s national side. His clinical form and consistency could be beneficial for England at Euro 2020.

While he may not be the starting striker – as that spot is seemingly reserved for Harry Kane – he can still damage defences when coming off the bench. His terrier-like mentality will prove useful against tiring teams in the tournament, and provide an alternative to the tried and tested Harry Kane.

Does He Warrant A Starting Spot?

Vardy excels on confidence, and when in-form, can be as dangerous as any striker in the league. There is certainly a case, currently, to suggest that the 32-year-old Leicester striker warrants a starting spot. He is settled in a thriving side and confident, in contrast to his competitor at Tottenham.

However, it would be unlikely that Harry Kane would be displaced. Gareth Southgate trusts the Tottenham striker, and has rewarded him with the England captaincy. As a result, it seems that Kane will be the starting striker at next summer’s tournament.

Vardy is England’s second best striker, with Harry Kane being his only superior. Gareth Southgate needs to select his best and most in form players for Euro 2020. As a result, that means selecting the Leicester striker.
