Tottenham Hotspur Should be Cautious in Chasing Jose Mourinho for Managerial Role

A Switch in Styles

Jose Mourinho’s tactics are well-known. As a result, a change from Mauricio Pochettino to Mourinho would represent a difficult transition in styles.

Tottenham currently deploy an attacking press. However, it has been unsuccessful so far this season, with five defeats so far in the campaign. Arguably, it shows naivety by Pochettino that he has not adapted and changed his side to find a winning mentality.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho would be turning the tables completely. The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager is a renowned defensive tactician, a style that would not suit Tottenham. Pochettino will need to be replaced by an equally young and progressive manager, something which Mourinho is neither.

Jose Mourinho Would Offer the Chance for Success at Tottenham

Mourinho has been synonymous with success wherever he has gone. While it would be a contrast in styles, it would offer Tottenham the chance for something that has evaded them for a long time: success.

A trophy has not arrived through the doors on the white side of North London since 2008. Four managers have been and gone since then, and none of them have won added to the club’s silverware during that time. The closest they have come has been under Pochettino, as they narrowly lost in last seasons UEFA Champions League final to Liverpool.

However, Mourinho is a known winner. He has won trophies at every club he has been at, and his sides have near-enough been the dominant force in their league under his management. As a result, it could prove a risk worth taking by Tottenham.

Not What Tottenham Need

Jose Mourinho is not what Tottenham need. He needs Tottenham more than they need him. Instead, Spurs should look towards a young and progressive manager.

There are several options to pick from. Eddie Howe would represent a good option for Tottenham, and not change their current style drastically. While he would prove a risk, it would be a risk worth taking.

Tottenham should proceed with serious caution when looking at Jose Mourinho. He is not the right option for them, and there better candidates out there for the Tottenham job.
