Oxford United will be looking to continue their devastating recent form this weekend when Karl Robinson’s side welcome Gillingham in League One.
The U’s are unbeaten in four games in all competitions, beating Lincoln City 6-0 in a record away Football League victory, before knocking Premier League outfit West Ham United out of the Carabao Cup with a thrilling 4-0 win.
Oxford United Look to Continue Impressive Form
Oxford Unbeaten in Four
It seems a long time ago that a run of five league games without a win saw a divide amongst a few Oxford United supporters.
But, since defeat at Fleetwood Town, Robinson’s side eased past Tranmere Rovers before, what seemed at the time, a disappointing draw at Bolton Wanderers.
Following the goalless encounter with the Trotters, the U’s thumped Lincoln City at Sincil Bank thanks to a hat-trick from Tariqe Fosu and goals from Jamie Mackie, James Henry and Matty Taylor.
Oxford then upped the ante yet again, with the second half demolition of the Hammers. Elliott Moore, Taylor, Fosu and Shandon Baptiste sealed another impressive result, setting up a fourth-round tie with Sunderland.
The start of the season showed what this Oxford side were capable of. They began with a credible draw at Sunderland, before edging past Peterborough United in both the league and Carabao Cup.
And they seemed to have rediscovered that form. Their run of five league games without a win came despite the U’s still playing some decent football. But, they weren’t clinical enough in front of goal and were vulnerable defensively.
Now Robinson and his team appear to have found a solution to these problems and look a frighteningly threatening team.
Oxford Form Continued?
The U’s will look at their next two games and could well expect another six points. They welcome Gillingham to the Kassam this weekend, before travelling to Accrington Stanley the following week.
Both sides are below this resurgent Oxford team in the league table. Now, Robinson’s side will be looking to extend their unbeaten run.
