After a host of upsets were caused in the third round, the draw for the Carabao Cup fourth round has been made. Upsets may be less likely than before, with the two sides from League Two pitted against each other, the two League One clubs drawn together and a host of all-Premier League ties.
Carabao Cup Fourth Round
Key Games
Crawley Town v Colchester United
Both of these sides went against the odds in their round three ties, beating higher-league opposition on penalties. Crawley Town dispatched of Championship side Stoke City, while Colchester United knocked out last season’s Champions League runners-up Tottenham Hotspur.
These two being drawn against each other means there will be at least one League Two side in the quarter-final of the competition. Is this a sign that the Football League sides are improving? Or does it further indicate the treatment of this competition by the Premier League sides?
Everton v Watford
After both Everton and Watford edged past Championship opposition in round three, Toffees boss Marco Silva will come up against his old side when they meet in the round of 16.
Silva left the Hornets for Everton in 2018 and has endured a fairly average time on Merseyside so far. However, given Watford’s indifferent start to the season in terms of results, he will see this as a perfect opportunity to take Everton one step closer to some silverware.
Watford, meanwhile, will surely just hope to make sure the result doesn’t put a further dampener on their season, with the side currently without a league win.
