Welcome to Last Word On Football’s Premier League preview of Matchweek six, the latest in our review series for the 2019/20 season. This week’s action in English football’s top-flight strikes up interesting fixtures, including league leaders Liverpool heading to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.

Chelsea v Liverpool
Chelsea are still finding their feet under new manager Frank Lampard. A 5-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out still had its faults, before suffering defeat in the Champions League to Valencia during the week.
Meanwhile, it is business as normal for Liverpool in the Premier League. They are yet to taste defeat, continuing an impressive run of 14 straight league victories. Jurgen Klopp’s sides biggest scare so far this season was arguably last time out, as they went 1-0 down to Newcastle United. However, they were resilient in their victory and came away with all three points.
This fixture often provides close encounters. The two sides have already met once this season and played out and 2-2 draw in the UEFA Super Cup. As a result, similar can be expected Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
Leicester City v Tottenham
These sides are only separated by goal difference, having both taken eight points from their opening five games. However, while there is an air of positivity surrounding Leicester City, there are still lingering doubts over Tottenham Hotspur.
The home side suffered a narrow defeat last time out, losing 1-0 away to Manchester United. However, it was a game that many predicted Leicester to take three points from due to their United’s inconsistencies.
Tottenham saw their biggest win of the season so far in Matchweek five, defeating Crystal Palace 4-0, with Heung Min-Son contributing two goals. However, they were then brought back down to reality in their first UEFA Champions League game of the season, surrendering a two-goal lead to Olympiacos.
As a result, Leicester will be hoping to take advantage of Tottenham’s inconsistent run. However, the away side have won the last three games between the two sides, an will be hoping to make it four in a row.

Southampton v Bournemouth
The south coast rivalry kicks off the weekend on Friday night. Both of these sides saw victory in Matchweek five, meaning that they will want to continue their run. As a result, it could end in a score draw at St Mary’s.
Leicester City v Tottenham
Leicester are heralded as the side to watch out for this season, while Tottenham are still waiting to kick into action. While the away side will be hoping to replicate their form from their win over Crystal Palace, they could come unstuck at the King Power Stadium.

Norwich City will be buoyed with confidence following their surprise 3-2 victory over Manchester City. However, could that be the barrier that sees them suffer defeat to Burnley?

Everton will be looking to improve their form to boost their aspirations of reaching the Europa League. However, they will face a tough task at home to Sheffield United, who are yet to taste defeat away from home this season.

Manchester City will be hoping to bounce back from their surprise defeat to Norwich by beating Watford at the Etihad. Watford – in Quique Sanchez Flores second game in charge – will have to put in a dogged defensive to display to take anything front the game.

Newcastle United v Brighton & Hove Albion
Both of these sides have seen shaky starts to the season, taking four points and five retrospectively. Brighton & Hove Albion were close to their second victory last time out, as Burnley scored a last-minute equaliser. As a result, it could be the away side that tastes victory.

Crystal Palace v Wolverhampton Wanderers
The Eagles will be hoping to avenge their hammering by Tottenham in Matchweek five beating Wolves at Selhurst Park. Wolves have struggled with the added extra of Europa League action, and Roy Hodgson will be hoping that his side can take advantage of that.

West Ham United v Manchester United
West Ham United are undefeated since the opening day of the season, while Manchester United are still finding their shape. The Hammers are slowly turning the London Stadium into a fortress and could come away as the victors in this clash.

Arsenal threw away a two-goal lead last time out and are now without a win in three. However, they should have more than enough to come away with three points against Aston Villa.

Chelsea v Liverpool
The home sides defences could come unstuck against Liverpool’s front three. Liverpool will be looking to extend their impressive start to the league but will endure a battle with Chelsea’s attack on Sunday.
